Sullivan Weather Net

The Membership of MAARS is deeply pleased and honored to host weather nets when the Sullivan WX9MKX station activates during severe weather. During these nets, relay stations communicate with the weather office, passing criteria-based traffic from local nets into the Weather Forecast Office (WFO). When this net is in FULL mode, unless you are a participating relay station, please move your QSOs to another frequency. Of course, you are welcome to remain on frequency and listen.

When Severe Weather threatens the Sullivan CWA, the NWS will usually issue a Watch for the area. When this happens, the MAARS repeater will enter an "informational" state, where QSOs may remain on the frequency, and our courtesy tone will remain the same. The control operators at this time will turn the DVR on to say "Severe Weather Alert" to inform users of the repeater that severe weather is possible.

As the weather becomes more threatening, or approaches the area, the Sullivan operators at WX9MKX will request the frequency for FULL operations. At this time, the Nets officially begin, and the courtesy tone will change to a Morse-code WX. When in this mode, the MAARS repeater hosts an official ARES - based Weather net. All operators are welcome to listen to the net, but please respect the official nature of the communications, and move any QSOs to another frequency. Once the "all clear" is given, the repeater will return to normal operation.
